The expression "Potomitan" refers to the central post of the voodoo temple which symbolizes the center of the world, or totem.
At the time of slavery in Martinique, the black man was just a tool in the fields while everything rests on the woman, foster mother, protector, carrier of lives and cultures.
Slavery might not be existing today, humans are still slaves somehow: slaves of the medias, the screens, slaves of body image. Since women are the one giving birth, they necessarely are more accomplished as men and might always be. But I am not talking about genders here but about an underwater world, the one in which women gave birth after being thrown over the slave board, an afro-futuristic world, born in free minds.
Speaking as a colored woman and artist, my designs talk and carry as a bamboo cocoon, a maternal womb, a fictional language, a wearable weapon and armor.
